June 6, 1944.

The Allied invasion in Normandy, France happened sixty years ago today.
It opened "the second front" in World War II which meant the Nazi forces were fighting both the Russians in the East and the Anglo-Americans in the West which would hopefully bring the German war machine to it's knees and put an end to the Nazi dictatorship.
Despite serious problems for the American troops in the early part of the landings D-Day was successful and eleven months and two days later the war would be over.
It's thanks to these brave men that we live in a free world and don't take orders from the Reichs-chancellery in Berlin! - or the Kremlin for that matter!
