Panzer - Sdkfz 251/22 "Drilling" In 1944 the Luftwaffe changed the guns on their figther planes from 20mm cannons to 30mm cannons and this left them with a surplus of perfectly good weapons. One way of using them was the "Drilling" which was introduced during the last six months of the war and had three 20mm rapid firing cannons placed on a revolving pedestal. The original idea was to provide a cheap and easily produced anti-aircraft vehicle for the panzerdivisions, but just like the Wirbelwind posted here yesterday the Drilling was used just as often against ground targets since the German army had to use every gun they could muster when facing the tidal wave of Allied armies.
