Participants in the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in China,

-Together
-Giving themselves
-Fighting
-For the future

Happy people.

I watched a documentary on Swedish Televison last week about the life of Mao.
After twenty years of communist rule, Mao had succeeded in making 1 billion Chinese think like he did...
He then staged the Cultural Revolution which combined with "The Great Leap Forward" programme of industrial and agricultural production caused the deaths af more than 30 million people.
This was done to make the Chinese people learn to think for themselves.

After the Cultural revolution, the Chinese people distrusted their authorities, and questioned the intentions of their leaders.
After that came the "one-child" policy which has created a generation of pampered individualists (just like in the leading economies in the West) and Mao's successors are now implementing capitalist marketing and production values.

This is foresighted leadership on a cosmological-philosophical level rarely seen, in my opinion.

But, of course, not much phunn...

I finished my trip to the Public Service festival by watching a documentary about TV-party, a hilarious account of artist-run cable-TV in New York, 1979-82.

TV party was the brainchild of Glenn O'Brien, who believed America was ruled not by the Congress, but by television, and TV party was a way of biting back at that. The staff included Debbie Harrie and Chris Stein of Blondie, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Fab Five Freddy and art scene regulars like John Lurie, Arto Lindsay and Robert Fripp, who would sometimes drop in to be the subjects of off beat interviews or jam in improvised bands (a rendition of the classic rocker "Wild Thing" with a mullet wearing front man playing the accordion made an unforgettable impression on this viewer...)
TV party placed itself somewhere between drug fueled insanity and innovative experimentation, partly because the owner of the studio it was broadcasted from prohibited the smoking of cigarettes, but never complained about the marihuana joints being lit live in front of the cameras...Jean-Michel Basquiat would sometimes operate the text generator writing words and sentences directly on the screen which he would later use in his famous paintings, and the basic concept of TV party seemed to be: it's a party...

And remember kids: What matters most is to be in the right place at the right time, so don't stay at home for too long...

And remember politicians, real estate owners and other power operators: if you want art in your city, keep the rent low, or you'll loose the crowd...

but who needs art, right?..

I was a teenage Nazi...

This week's sensation must be the upcoming book by the nobel-prize winning author and icon of humanistic left-wingers in Germany - Günther Grass (b. 1927), who has revealed a most astonishing secret: He was a member of the SS...

In his own words, young Günther reacted to the spirit of the times and volunteered for the U-Boot service when he was fifteen, but was deemed too young and had to wait until late 1944 when he was sent to Dresden to join the ranks of the 10. SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg", famous for their participation in the Battle of Arnhem

Well, it will be interesting to monitor if the revered Grass will be the target of massive outrage like other celebrities who had their Third Reich past exposed, recently Pope Benedict XVI (who was placed in the same POW-camp as Grass after the war, which started a lifelong friendship between them)

In my humble opinion there are only really two types of people in this world: sinkers and swimmers...

Finished "Ego and Hubris" by Pekar and Dumm, the best read I've had in years!

Michael Malice is a real person and created an award winning blog; Overheard in New York

Readers of "Ego and Hubris" will not be surprised to learn that Michael Malice had a falling out with the publisher of "Overheard.." and was subsequently fired from the blog...this dispute has since been settled.

Ego and Hubris - The Michael Malice story, by Harvey Pekar and Gary Dumm was presented to me as a gift by Morten, man of - poetic second rate notes

I've read about half of it so far, and can say: Once again the graphic novel reveals itself as the savior of Art from Fluxus bullshit, Duchampian dogma, and armies of charlatans who honestly believes drinking beer at an opening with their cohorts is in fact a "ready-made" or a "social sculpture"

Wankers, (and state-subsidized at that!)

- go buy some graphic novels instead.

well, back to "Ego and Hubris"...It's an intriguing and funny story of a man (Michael Malice) who basically think he's smarter than everyone else (he usually is) and this paired with a remarkable lack of sensitivity for others makes him an imperial pain in the ass. Other reviewers claim he gets nicer at the end of the book and since I've only read half of it I'll have to take their word for it, so far he comes out as the guy you NEVER want to meet, EVER!

But that's not all, dear readers, a milestone was passed last night; 100.000 visitors to this blog...

Viktor Schauberger (1885-1958) was an Austrian engineer who studied the forces of water and water vortexes which led to a number of discoveries and ideas about energy that has today earned him a status similar to Nicola Tesla's in the world of "alternative science" and you can check a great site about him here.

Schauberger is often mentioned in connection to UFO and conspiracy theories and this comes from the fact that in the 1940'she worked under German military control on the devellopment of a flying machine called the Repulsine, which was based on his principles of creating energy from vortexes.

Schauberger was reluctant to work for the Nazi regime, which at one time placed his research under the direct control of the SS and dispatched him to the Mauthausen concentration camp where he was ordered to continue his work with the aid of forced labourers.
After WWII he was invited to the USA by a group of industrialists, but after spending some time working on projects in Arizona, he mysteriously signed a letter giving up any further research, handed over all his prototypes and notes and returned to Austria where he died four days later.

In 2006 the French engineer Jean-Louis Naudin built a working model based on the ideas of the Repulsine, you can see it fly here:

Konrad Zuse was one of the pioneers of computing, creating one of the first computers (or THE first, depending on how you define "a computer")

Zuse was also the first to market computers, offering his Z4 for sale from his own company Zuse AG in september 1950.

Of particualar interest to the space-heads frequenting this blog are his theories on the universe: The Universe is a computer
He also liked to paint
