Nazi art week, today with Hans Steinhoff 1882-1945

Steinhoff directed the early Nazi film Hitlerjunge Quex (1933), a romantic tale of the Hitler Youth.

Adhering strictly to the guidelines for film making laid out by the ministry of propaganda, Steinhoff became a protege of Joseph Goebbels but was very unpopular with his crews. The film star Hans Albers once described him as "...the greatest asshole of this century..."

Despite his close affiliations with the Nazi state he apparently had no intentions of going down with it, as he died in one of the last aircraft to leave Nazi Germany (It was shot down on the way to Spain)

-----
What's up at YouTube: The end scene in Hitlerjunge Quex
Hitler youth member Heini Völker is murdered by the communists, but before he dies he visions the future of Germany with Nazi stormtroopers marching to victory.

(For those with further interest in viewing Third Reich cinema, most of it can be found at this site)

Nazi art week, today with Hans Liska 1907-83

Liska wasn't a Nazi artist but drafted into the German Army's propaganda unit where he visited the frontlines and made some very dramatic and action packed illustrations which appeared in many publications, including the popular magazine Signal

Panzer Sturmpanzer IV
A nice view of a very early Stupa IV. Later models had an MG34 machine gun mounted for self defence and the first two wheels (later first four) were replaced with all steel version instead of the standard rubber tyred ones. This was done due to excessive wear on the wheels caused by the weight of the 150 mm gun and heavily armoured superstructure.

The Ministry of Social Affairs in Denmark has been renamed "The Ministry of Welfare" a clear indication that Denmark no longer wastes its time caring for the needy but uses it wealth to secure the the well-being of the middle class majority.

Renaming the ministry also takes care of that nasty word "social", which reeks of "Social reform", "Socialism" etc, etc.

"Welfare" on the other hand sounds almost like "wellness"

I suggest we do a final renaming and call it simply The Ministry of Wellness

A private wwII snapshot of four uniformed men enjoying some leisure in the summer of 1944.

On the far left: Josef Mengele, the Auschwitz doctor who was conducting medical experiments on KZ prisoners at the time this photo was taken, second is Rudolf Höss, the first Aushwitz and later Bergen-Belsen commander, third is Josef Kramer, the Auschwitz commander at the time the photo was taken. The fourth man is unidentified.

From A personal photo album belonging to an employee at Auschwitz, the full album can be seen at the USHMM website here

Their honour was loyalty, attention to duty and the task at hand, and they never questioned authority - They got the job done.

You can go far in the world with that.
