Good bye 2008 and hello 2009.

Not the greatest year in my life, since it included losing Jakob E to cancer and a fire in the building I live in, which in effect put me out on the street...(fortunately I had insurance which set me up in temporary accommodations)

But, these are of course just trifle personal matters, because the world now has OBAMA! and OBAMA! will solve every problem known to man and bring about a golden age of enlightenment and prosperity (and if he doesn't it's not his fault but due to all those evil people who secretly control the world)

A Happy New Year to all who celebrate it!

So now what?..

Global Capitalism Meltdown...

I COULD spend the next many months making fun of the neo-liberals who shoved capitalism down your throat and laughed at you if you dared mentioning that maybe not everything could be solved by greed, exploitation and what your Bank manager told you?

But no! - instead I'll wait until they have elegantly transformed themselves into neo-marxists so I can blame them for:

The Gulags
Russian and Ukrainian famines of the 1930's
Badly retouched official photographs
Marxist school teachers of the 1970's

but hey, who cares? life's not really about ideologies... it's about winners and losers!

And the winners always know what team to be picked by.

My newspaper informs me that Danish girls are doing very well in Danish schools and more and more of them are moving on to higher educations, while the boys are increasingly sacking behind...

The explanation is that the girls are better at adjusting to the rules, regulations and discipline required for learning, while the boys have problems concentrating for longer periods, confronts authority, and often become either rebellious or indifferent.

This is however not a problem for them in the long run, because our society values the independence, drive and initiative of "the bad boy".

It is also predicted that when more women receive higher educations, these will drop in prestige followed by an equal drop in salaries.

Many boys are likely to completely skip education and instead become independent entrepreneurs, relying on their personal network and savvy for creating their own businesses.

Legend has it that when internationally acclaimed artist Olafur Eliasson designed three large sphere-shaped lamps for the Copenhagen Opera House, he deliberately made his contribution resemble the flag of the nearby Freetown of Christiania.

In order to see it you have to position yourself outside the main entrance where the lamps can be seen against the red wooden interior walls of the concert hall.

The double irony is of course, that if Christiania was to be torn down, (as some of the more right-wing oriented Danes hope for...), the richest man in Denmark, shipping tycoon Maersk Mckinney-Møller (who funded the opera) would have paid for this "secret" memorial which is also placed almost opposite his own corporate headquarters, and directly in front of the Danish Royal Palace.

One unexpected outcome though: I made some drawings ten years ago when I taught drawing at a center for disabled people. I haven't been able find them for years, but apparently I had placed them at the bottom of a wooden box with a lot of junk on top. Everything was put in storage by the insurance company, except for some clothes and personal things I brought with me to the Hotel.

The apartment needs to be dried, cleaned, repaired and painted - it will take three to four months before I can return...

Traces of someone living in the attic was found a few months ago (together with "junkie paraphernalia") The Police are looking for a couple not residing in the building which were seen leaving through the back entrance just before the fire. The administrator of the building had checked the back entrance doors on the day of the fire, which were all locked.

Well, last night someone managed to set fire to the roof of the building I live in!

According to the Police the fire was not caused by faulty electrics or similar.

Luckily nobody got hurt, and I've got insurance, but it will be at least three months before I can live in my apartment again due to damages from water (I live on the fourth floor)

I was up there today to collect a few things and It doesn't look like any of my stuff was damaged. It's mostly the ceilings, walls and floors that suffered. My insurance company has set me up in a hotel for the next couple of days until they can provide me with an apartment, so I guess everything will be ok.

Out in the suburbs I ventured.

No junkies, winos, aggressive prostitutes, or fat pimps from Kreplachistan out there.

All I saw were nice healthy people, teenagers and kids on their way home from school. Going home to their warm cosy houses, their warm cosy families.

And nature, right there on their doorsteps! you can take a stroll while you walk the dog.

I used to live like that. Lived in a small town out in the country. Went to a nice clean school, nice healthy people, and nature all around.

But that type of life comes at a price.

A high price.

I'd probably go crazy if I lived out there now.

And the nice clean people would think I was a weirdo.

I'd end up a worthless drunk like all the other misfits out there.

Better stay in the city. And hide between the filthy, ugly, noisy people.

I used to think that was cool and exiting.
