Panzer: Panzerbeobachtungswagen III, Ausf F
These specialist vehicles were converted from standard Panzer III's in 1942-44 and used for artillery range finding and target spotting. The main gun was removed and replaced by an MG 34, with a dummy gun made from wood or aluminium fitted next to it, to conceal the Panzer's true purpose from the enemy. Note the unusual collar patches worn by the trooper in full gear and helmet, lacking the small metal skulls normally attached.
