R.I.P Bill Auerbach

And who was he?..
well...a guy who liked Panzers and who published books filled with exciting photos of them, like the cult classic Last of the Panzers

Later he collaborated with fellow enthusiast Lee Archer and launched Panzerwrecks, books (eighteen and counting ) dedicated to rarest of the rare photos of Panzers.

To discover the rare, exciting, and unusual, and show it to the rest of us:

Thanks Bill Auerbach.

Panzer: Pzkpfw IV, Ausf G
A couple of Pz IV's serving with a Waffen SS unit. The photo was probably taken to commemorate the award of Iron crosses to members of the crew.
The two troopers on the far right are wearing their Iron Cross second class suspended from their ribbons, which was usually only done on the day of the award. Date of photo is probably early 1943, perhaps after the Third battle of Kharkov.
